We had a great time this past year in the Teen Advisory Board of the Allen Public Library. The Teen Advisory Board, or TAB, meets the first Thursday of the month to discuss what programs, books, movies and other media the teens think would be great additions to the Allen Public Library. The TAB also hosts the Summer Reading Program for teens, with great programming during the summer months, such as the Allen Has Talent Show, Improv Theater class onstage, and some great movies. The TAB also hosts a special Teen Mystery Play in the fall, performed by the TAB members.

Over 35 teens have participated in the TAB program this year, attending twelve monthly meetings, and rehearsals for the mystery play, and have been the hosts for many of the interesting Teen Programs at the Allen Public Library.
The Teen Advisory Board (TAB) plans, promotes and implements programs and services for teens at the Allen Public Library.

In 2009 TAB members have:

· volunteered over 953 service hours
· presented a mystery play for teens
· hosted talent show event in the summer for teens
· planned and implemented teen summer reading activities with prizes and programs that included crafts, movies, speakers and more
· celebrated Teen Read Week
· celebrated Teen Tech Week with robots
· participated and marched in the Allen Christmas Parade
· made new friends and had fun while serving the community

If this sounds like something you’d like to be a part of, you can apply to be on the Teen Advisory Board for 2010.

Here’s what it takes. You need to:

· be enthusiastic, creative and able to follow through with commitments
· have an interest in other teens and in service to the community
· be willing to share ideas and work with other people
· currently be in 7th through 12th grade
· be able to attend most meetings and programs (usually Thursdays from 7-8 or 8:30 p.m.)
· serve for the calendar year January-December 2010
· fill out and return the two-page application and parental permission to the Allen Public Library Information Desk
· provide one letter of recommendation from an adult other than a family member

TAB members earn community/volunteer service hours.
