Virtual Teen Advisory Board Meeting

The first virtual TEEN ADVISORY BOARD of the Allen Public Library will be on Thursday, April 2, 2009 at 7:00 pm.

No, this is not an elaborate April Fools Day joke.

The sponsor, Mrs. Saxton, Teen Services Librarian, will be high atop the skyline of Houston at the Texas Library Association's Annual Conference.

TEEN ADVISORY BOARD members are encouraged to participate in an online chat to finalize the plans for the Summer Reading Program: TEXAS TEENS READ: TIME TWISTIN' TTR.09.

Plan to meet virtually here on Thursday, April 2, 2009 at 7:00 pm.

  10. Hello from Houston! I am having a wonderful time at the Texas Library Association's Annual Convention in downtown Houston.

I have met many Young Adult authors including:
    Joan Bauer, author of Peeled.
    Neal Shusterman, author of Unwind.
John Green, author of An Abundance of Katherines.
Lisa Kline, author of Two Girls of Gettysburg.
Sara Zarr, author of Story of a Girl (soon to be a movie!)
Melissa Marr, author of Wicked Lovely and Ink Exchange.
Walter Dean Myers, author of over 90 books, including Fallen Angels, and his newest, Sunrise Over Fallujah.
Roland Smith, author of Peak, and his newest, IQ.
Gary Schmidt, author of The Wednesday Wars.
Ally Carter, author of I'd Tell You I Love You But Then I'd Have to Kill You.
Scott Westerfeld, author of Uglies, Pretties, Extras, and Specials and many other books.

I have also met the wonderful artist of the Texas Summer Reading Club, Emily Fiegenschuh. She is a wonderfully crazy artist and she is very talented and creative.

    Let the TAB meeting commence!

  11. Thank you all for attending this virtual TAB meeting. I see Katherine, Christine (?), Trent's daughter, and who else?

  12. April: Awesome!
    Christine: (said manically): Hi *waves*

  14. We need to talk about renaming the Talent Show in the summer on Thursday, June 18, at 2:00 pm. Someone suggested calling it "Allen Has Talent!"

    ReplyDelete
  15. We might make it a cross between American Idol and America Has Talent. Katherine has already said that she wants to be a judge. Some of the people who work at the library have agreed to showcase their talents: I am trying to convince Alicia to sing and roller skate at the same time.

  16. April: Ok, that sound great, is there any way that we could have it end before 4?
Because I'm running a camp and I need to be there by 4:30!

Christine: I'm trying to get a gmail account, but my computer is slow!

    ReplyDelete
  17. I like Show de Talent!

    So what is your talent?

    ReplyDelete
  18. April: My talent is a comedy skit with Christine and Devon from YAWA.

    Christine: I'm reading the comments!

    ReplyDelete
  19. My talents are not really "showable"

    ReplyDelete
  20. Oh ya, and Steven's in it too!

    ReplyDelete
  21. The Show de Talent or Allen Has Talent! would run from 2:00 to 4:00, and we could plan it out so that it ended at 3:30 with clean up in the Auditorium until 4:00.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Wow, is this all the people we have?!?!?!
If certain people don't show up, I'm going to be angry!

    ReplyDelete
  23. That sounds great, thanks guys!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Because the talent show will be in June, I have switched The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants #2 movie to May 23 in the Auditorium at 2:00. I was going to have a related craft. Last time, I did blue jean pockets with paint and sparkles.
I can do another craft. Maybe an Altered Book craft.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Actually I was referring to Vivian!
But anyone that doesn't show up I will be slightly peeved with.
    >:-<

    ReplyDelete
  26. This is so disjointed!
Ok, I think I like the altered book craft!

  27. Christine: Something blue jean related would be cool, but if you already did that then idk.

    April: .....

  28. I heard about a really cool Scavenger Hunt. We are having a Scavenger Hunt in the Summer Reading Program on Thursday, July 23.
There are old photographs of local places and the participants have to guess where the places are, and if possible, take a picture of the current place.
Such as a photograph of the water tower in town without any houses around it.
This is supposed to be connected to the theme for the summer, Time Twisting.

    ReplyDelete
  29. April: That sounds really cool. How are we going to take the pics though if it's at the library??

    Christine: Ya, that sounds cool!

    ReplyDelete
  30. The next TAB meeting is Thursday, May 7th at 7:00 pm in the Meeting Room.

    ReplyDelete
  31. That's cool for people to have to know where things are in the city they live in

    ReplyDelete
  32. The Scavenger Hunt might be hard to do, if the participants have to supply pictures. Maybe a sheet for guessing what the place is.
Or maybe pictures of people from way back when.
I have a picture of me as a child where I look just like Alfred E. Newman. But everyone would know it was me. ;)

  33. Guys, I gotta go for now, I have a dinner at the tallest building in Houston waiting for me. You can keep talking if you wish and I will check in with you later!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  34. I like the first idea Who would we use for the second idea

    ReplyDelete
  35. April: Ok, but how will the participants know what to take photos of?
Um, I'm never releasing pictures of me before the age of 12.

    Christine: ...

  36. I have a feeling I'm just sitting here commenting to myself.

  38. Im sorry What have you been up to

    ReplyDelete
  39. Ok, just thought of this, are all TAB members supposed to sign up for the Day of the Book/Day of the Child event? And is it still on April 26th??

    April

    ReplyDelete
  40. That event that Mrs. Saxton told us a couple of TAB meetings ago!

    ReplyDelete
  41. It's an event that you help out at by making crafts with little kids!

    ReplyDelete
  42. April: Ya, hoping that Mrs. Saxton reads this and tells me about the date.

    Christine: I am awesome!

    ReplyDelete
  43. I haven't heard any different to answer your question

    ReplyDelete
  44. Im going to leave See you next meeting
